An ambitious young woman from America, known for being cute her entire life, creates International news for killing her friend in 2007. From a typical happy-go American Girl, she turned into a murderer overnight. During the court trial, she had to endure insults and blame for something she never commits.

For most of the people in Italy, she became a face known for sinister crime. Amanda was hated. Amanda never had the idea – how her life would conspire for something she has never even imagined. She spent four years in prison for the murder of her friend, finally getting justice in 2011.

Most of you who have watched her documentary and interviews know a fair amount of details about all the mess this young woman had to go through. The gruesome murder made her famous overnight, but she had to pay a heavy price. Being the Kardashian of such an unfortunate event, Amanda appeared in the news and media from time to time, but things don’t stop here.

Recently on 8 July 2021, the movie ‘Still Water’ (A re-enacted event of Amanda Knox’s unfortunate event) gets released. Matt Damon (Director) depicted Amanda Knox’s situation and became the center of attention. But here Amanda was not happy with the movie. Knox tells her well-wishers, she is being defamed in the movie and slams Matt Damon for the dishonest publicity stunt.

What is in the movie?

In the movie Still Water, Abigail Breslin plays the role of Amanda Knox, and Matt Damon plays the role of Curt Knox (The Real-life father of Amanda). The movie opens with the plot- where Amanda is in jail for the murder of her roommate and her unfaithful lover. The father reaches out to help his daughter but couldn’t reopen the case.

In one visit, the daughter in the movie gives her father a written note in French. The paper had clues to the real murderer. With the help of few people, the father soon finds out the murderer’s details. The name of the killer was Akim. He had an association with gang members in the same city. Without informing the cops, the father tried to track Akim (The real murderer) on his own.

After planning and plotting for days, the father finally captures Akim and holds him in a secret basement. After capturing the alleged killer, Alison’s father hires a private investigator to test the killer’s DNA and match the DNA report from the crime scene.

One day the murderer tells the father that he was hired by his daughter to kill Lina, the roommate. Knowing the secret, the father starts forming doubts about his daughter, and he frees Akim. As time passed, one day the DNA test came which exonerated Alison, and she was released from jail and was finally free of all charges. The case was reopened, and Alison (Amanda) and her father return to their hometown.

After returning, the father asks his daughter to tell him the truth. Everything that happened there. Alison breaks down by telling the father that she had hired a killer but did not intend for Lina to die. The father gets disturbed to know the real story, but promises to keep the secret and protect her.

How is it related to Amanda’s life?

The film is a reenacted event from Amanda’s real-life crime story. Amanda was jailed in Italy for the murder of a British student Meredith Kercher. Meredith was staying in the same apartment with Amanda in Perugia. Along with Amanda, her boyfriend Rafaelle Sollecito was arrested too. After the death of Meredith, Amanda had to face trial for four years without bail.

During her trial, her father used to visit her frequently. Monica Napoleoni and Marco Chiaccheira took the case.

Amanda was almost linked as the murderer and was the main suspect. Later, a man named Rudy Herman Guede was suspected of the murder along with Amanda of raping and killing the victim. With Guede and Rafaelle, Amanda was also convicted of charges of faking the break-in, murder, sexual violence and was sentenced to 26 years of imprisonment in Italy.

After the appeal trial, the court gave a go-ahead for an independent review of crucial DNA evidence. The DNA report was re-examined by an Independent Forensic expert Dr. Carla Vecchiotti. This time the report came out to be contaminated. All the proof had aspects of uncertainty. In the prosecution’s closing argument, the verdict came out in favor of Amanda and Sollecito. She was released immediately.

After six years an Italian court throws out Knox and Sollecito’s acquittal, and the couple was found guilty again. The new guilty verdict focuses on circumstantial evidence including Knox’s Behaviour and relationship. Once again the couple was found not guilty and Amanda is now free of all charges.

What is the Contradiction?

• The movie Still Water is a misinterpretation of real life Amanda’s story.
• In the Film Still Water 2021, Matt Damon depicted Amanda Knox as guilty.
• Amanda tells her father that she hired a killer but didn’t intend to kill Meredith Kercher at the end of the movie.
• The ending of the movie appears as a personal attack on Amanda’s present life.

In reality, Amanda has always been expressing her innocence. She is trying hard to leave her past life behind. After graduating college in 2014, she now even advocates for the wrongfully convicted. Matt Damon ended the movie concluding Amanda as the agent who hired a killer to commit the crime.

The Movie ends happens to be an act of defamation as Amanda is free of all charges. In Matt Damon’s version of the story, Amanda is the antagonist.
