Full Story
Cage and his Pig are portrayed as an inseparable team.
First part:
Rustic mushroom tart
We see them hunting for truffles jointly, and we watch Rob has immense affection for Pig. Interesting is that Pig also appears to have a talent for finding rare fungi and this makes him special. The owner cooks a mushroom tart and enjoys the meal with his pig. The solitude comforts Rob, and the movie looked good.
The pig was always around him, she even sleeps together in the house.
A younger man soon gets introduced in the scene named Amir (Alex Wolff) who comes to buy a yank of truffles. In the movie, Amir is Rob’s major source of earnings, but Rob doesn’t need much because he’s dedicated to living off the grid, connecting with nature, and loathing around grief over a woman he lost.
Amir even wanted to tip Nicholas, but Nicolas was a man of few words.
Amir: You sure you don’t want one of those, um, camp showers, you know, the ones with the propane and the hot water? What about that phone? I don’t want to be the one to drive up and find you, like the dead. You know, there’s, like, animals and shit out here.
Aiding Rob with some basic amenities from the grocery, Amir leaves. Nicholas listens to a tape from his cassette player. He was a depressed person, silent and introverted. Mostly you would hear pig grunts in the entire first half of the movie.
One night some criminals break into his house and kidnap the pig. Rob charges with his knife, but he gets attack by a metallic object stranding him in the ground. The robbers leave while the pig squeals.
The next day Rob wakes up in pain.
Recalling about the pig getting stolen, he starts his truck and heads towards the highway. His car breaks down, and he walks his way to the nearest town.
He enters a cafe where people start staring at him.
Cafe owner: Can I help you?
Rob: Is… [clear throats]Marge here?
Cafe owner: Marge died 10 years ago.
Rob: Oh. Do you have a phone?
Cafe owner: Are you gonna order something?
Rob: No.
The owner offers him a phone. Rob calls Amir, and he comes into the scene. After Amir arrives, Rob tells him that his Pig is stolen, and he needs to find those who did it.
Rob: You want your supply. I need my pig.
They both drive to the truffle mill to enquire about his stolen pig. Amir suspected a couple who had a green pickup truck. They work for the Mill owner. The couple with a green pickup truck might know about the kidnapping.
Rob: They took my pig.
The mill owner: What kind of pig?
Rob: It’s a truffle pig.
The owner helps them have words with the couple with the green truck. They suggest they know nothing about any pig.
Tweakette: Okay. Listen. We don’t even have the pig anymore, okay? – I mean, I swear…
Rob: Who has it?
The couple tells Rob about some city guys who came here the other day with a black car. After getting to know more, Amir and Rob leave the place.
Amir: So I guess that’s it? Just find a new one?
Rob: Another pig can’t do what she did.
Rob insists Amir drive him to the city.
Amir: What are you going to do? Knock on every door in Portland?
Rob: I might know someone who knows the industry.
Amir denies taking him to Portland and tells Rob that he would never take him to the city as he did business there. He cared about his reputation, but because Amir was nothing without Rob’s help, finally, he agrees to take him to the city. They reach the city late evening, and borrowing a 10$ from Amir Rob enters a market and meets an old acquaintance Edgar.
Amir: How do you know that guy? how do you know him?
Rob: I used to live around here.
Amir: You know Edgar?
Rob insists they should stay in the city till 12 o clock at midnight. At 12 they reached a restaurant that Amir knew. As Amir knew the staff, they were given an entry from the back door.
Amri: What are we doing now?
Rob: We are going to the portland hotel.
Amir: What hotel? what…
Rob: Hotel Portland.
Amir: I know this city, there is no such thing as hotel portland.
After an argument, Rob finally tells Amir that the hotel was TAKEN DOWN back in the 50ies and that it is Pioneer square now. The pioneer square is now covered up by a sub-basement, that is under the park.
Amir: What?
Rob: Now it’s Edgar’s place. That’s where we are going.
Rob pushes a shelf that was attached to one of the walls of the restaurant and opens up a path that leads to the basement. They were in. Just like a treasure hunt movie both of the men enter the dark and dusty cave, and climb down an old iron staircase.
Rob: Whatever happens, just stay back.
Amir: What does that mean?
Rob tells Amir that Edgar has been fighting the restaurant owners for thirty years.
Amir: How do you know that? Who are you?
They both reached an underground place where Edgar was holding a fighting game. Everyone stares at them as they walk at Edgar. Rob walks up to the scoreboard and writes his name on it.
Robin Feed.
The public starts gathering around him, and people start bidding money. He was up for a fight too. He gets beaten up.
Rob: I am looking for my pig.
Edgar gives him a piece of paper. After receiving the piece of paper Amir takes rob to a hotel for the night.
Part two:
Mom’s French Toast and deconstructed scallops.
The next morning rob wakes up as amir serves him breakfast. Amir comes to know about the reality of Rob (Robin Feed) now. Rob was a respectful guy a long time ago. He was a chef whom Amir used to know as a child. Rob was a famous person during his time in Portland. People still talk about him.
Rob gives Amir the piece of paper he received from Edgar. It was a restaurant.
Rob: Can you get a reservation for lunch?
Ameer agrees and tells Rob that he knew him as a child and has heard a lot about him. Later that day, Amir visits his friend who was friends with the sous chef at Finway’s.
Amir: Can you score me a Restaurant for lunch today or… I just have a friend with me in town.
But the friend denies him any entry.
Amir: My friend is Robin Feld.
Meanwhile, Rob visits the house where he used to live. Everything has changed now. On the other hand, Amir gets the reservation in the Fenway with the help of his friend. The waitress serves them a spectacular dish, and Rob eats it.
Rob: I’d like to speak with the chef.
Amir: Listen, man, can we try to keep a low profile. My dad sells this place, and I am not supposed to be here.
Soon the Chef comes and starts talking. Amir asks if there are any truffle dishes on the menu.
The chef: Well, we are planning a few truffle dishes for the winter menu. It’s–it’s a–it’s a fascinating and expanding local industry with deep roots in old-world, uh, traditions.
Rob: I am looking for a truffle pig.
The chef soon recognizes him and starts conversing with him.
Rob: I just want my Truffle Pig.
Chef: Uh, why–why do you want a pig?
Rob: It’s my pig.
Chef: Oh, okay.
Uh, that–that–that’s great. That’s a–that’s a–
that’s a great business. It’s a–it’s a–
it’s an expanding industry.- It’s–it’s…
Rob: – Someone stole it.
Chef: I, um, I respect you, Chef,
I always have. But I’m running a business here and people have expectations, uh, critics,
uh, investors, so forth. And, uh, truffles
are-are-are-are a key part of the whole, uh, the concept
of the winter menu and–and they need to be
the top of the line. So you understand. I–I have–I have
the utmost respect for you, utmost.
Rob knew the chef knew something about the pig.
Rob: What is the…concept here?
Chef: Um, well, uh, we’re interested in taking local ingredients, uh, native to this region and–and just deconstructing them, you know, making the–the familiar feel foreign, thereby giving us, uh, an even greater appreciation of food as a whole.
After an extensive conversation with Derek the chef finally Rob asks him if he knows where his pig was. Derek finally gives him information that the pig is with someone who should not be messed with.
The guy who had his pig was Amir’s dad. Amir was sorry to hear about that and apologized that he hadn’t told anything about the pig to his dad. Rob gets angry and starts beating Amir’s fancy car and asks him to take him to Amir’s father. Amir gives the address of his father finally and they part.
Rob: We are done. I don’t wanna see you again.
Amir: That’s it? Really?
Rob heads to the location of Amir’s father stealing a cycle. Amir visits his mother who is in a home. He talks to his mother about the situation even tho she is in a coma.
On the other hand, Rob finally meets Darius. Amirs father. The father honors meeting Rob and tells him that he was the best chef he ever knows.
Rob: I’d like my pig back.
Amir’s father tells him that he kidnapped the pig because he didn’t want his son to be working away from his business, and he didn’t want his son to be having a business of his own, but to work under him. Darius offers Rob 25,000$ in money and asks him to walk away.
Darius: From the very first moment my son started selling for you, you’ve been in my world. This whole time, all these years, Edgar, Finway, Those tweaked out F**ks, they are mine.
Darius threatens him to leave and accept the money he offered, or else he would chop the pig and eat it with bacon.
Darius: Now get out of my house.
Disheartened Rob walks out of the house and meets Amir, who came to help Rob.
Amir: I am sorry, I told him about you. I didn’t know he’d take her.
Rob: I don’t need my pig to find truffles.
Amir: What?
Rob: The trees tell you where to look.
Rob tells Amir the secret that it was not the pig who helped him find the rare truffles, but was a knowledge he acquired living in the woods. That he loves the pig and made up stories to make her feel special.
They both decide on a plan, and Rob gives Amir a list of things to pick up from addresses.
Rob: ‘We are getting my pig back”.
Part Three:
A bird, a bottle, and a salted Baguette
Amir finds about Rob’s past, about the departed wife Laurie Feld. Rob visits his old workplace and meets his friend (Halen), who has a bakery now.
Halen: I kept it the same for some time. I thought maybe you’d come to take it back nut you didn’t. And, um, it wasn’t me, you’re a chef, I’m a baker.
Halen now runs Rob’s business and has changed it to a bakery. After meeting the friend, he joins Amir and goes to Darius’s house. Rob prepares a meal and tells him that he made him dinner. Rob serves the dinner.
The food reminded Darius of his wife, and Darius breaks down crying. He leaves the dining table without a word and asks Rob to get out of the house. Darius tells Rob that the pig died, and this made Rob break down into tears. After knowing the tragedy, Rob and amir had dinner together in a small cafe.
Amir: Are you okay?
Rob: I m gonna have a walk.
Rob shakes hands with Amir and promised to meet him on Thursday.
After separating, Rob goes back to the forest, back to his small house. He plays the cassette of his wife, a dedicated song to him for his birthday.
The end.
