A Movie that kills people became a serious concern after 86 people die in cinema halls, and the audience started having nervous breakdowns.
Ever heard of any movie that kills people or cursed someone in real life? We have all heard about people dying of heart attacks caused by fear and tension after watching a film, but imagine a movie so cursed that the directors had to add a three-minute statutory warning before the movie starts.
A new trend emerged in Tic Tok and Twitter recently, and people started to watch it. With the growing popularity, people started showing mass concern about the adverse effects after watching the movie.
What is the name of the movie? (A Movie that kills people)
The title of the movie is Antrum. The movie released in the late 70s has deleterious impacts on those who attend it; the movie is supposedly the only known edition of the film, which has itself been altered by an unknown third party.
The film was dispatched in the late 1970s and is said to be doomed. This disturbance follows the unexplainable deaths of several film festival programmers that had taken Antrum as a submission and died shortly after viewing it, but how far are the claims and stories accurate? Is the movie Cursed and will it kill you? Really?

(A movie that kills people)
Why is the movie known to be cursed? (A movie that kills people)
⦁ Fire In Budapest Theatre – 1988
The first disaster the film caused was in Budapest, Hungary. Antrum was released in one of the theaters in Hungary in 1988. It was the first time the movie gets showcased on a big screen. While the film was operating, the building automatically caught fire. Generally, movie theater fires originate in the projector room, but in Antrum’s case, the fire started from several areas in the audience.
Deaths. When the big hall was set aflame, it took 56 people with it as it fell to the ground. Credible, the film reel should have smoked as well, but it did not. Due to the essence of the tragedy and the elusiveness, the movie soon became untouched, and it was later identified, as a cult film.
⦁ Mysterious deaths in San Fransisco – 1993
There was no evidence for who submitted the tape in the Film Festivals, and some assumed it to be the business of the devil himself. Janet Hilberg was one of the first victims of the movie. She underwent a fatal seizure after a screening of Antrum. The next was Tom Stylum he dies of electrocution. The last programmer, Joe Barringer, met his doom when he was stung by a stonefish. The deaths of the other four victims remain anonymous.
What is in the Movie? (A Movie that kills people)
To find out the truth we decided to watch the movie. The movie is available on Amazon Prime and can be watched with a subscription. The runtime is one hour, thirty-four minutes, and the first impression when we started the movie was a mixture of odd feelings. The movie starts with some creepy images and lo-fi video clips from the early 1940s that depict hell in its crude nature. The background music sets an eery atmosphere and you would expect the movie to be a documentary when the directors and producers start talking about Hell and Devil.
Narration: Since The dawn of cinema we’ve been making movies about hell and the devil. And they have been just films, so they’ve been safe. The Antrum is not safe.
The movie can be divided into two distinctive parts :
First Part 1:
Declaration by the Movie Director, Movie producer, people behind the 2019 re-release, witness accounts of first two tragedies and Movie critics.
Second Part 2:
The complete movie Antrum 1979 (A movie that kills people)
First part –
The first part sets the climax of the movie by giving us an idea of the background and the tragedies associated with it.
“The Fires in the theatres typically start in the projection room because of the flammable nature of the film. But the investigation, which includes a unanimous decision by both firefighters and a forensics team, that not one but multiple fires had started originating from within the audience”
– Konstantin Asztalos: Chief Arsons unit Budapest 1986 – 1999.
“It was released in one theatre and it burnt down. The movie is a Holy Grail of underground cult movies that no one has noticed, besides for a handful of Film Festival programmers who are deceased now, and the story is that the Film is cursed and anyone who attends it will die “. It was like the work of the devil. It’s like the devil started submitting a film to the film festivals”.
“Seeing even the small portion that I did, It’s not super scary like you don’t jump out of your seats with scares. It just …goes under your skin”.
“And as a result, it’s been lost for years. Some people don’t think it exists, some people claimed to have seen it and lived, and now apparently you guys have found it”.
– AJ Bond: Film Maker / Aficionado
“You know of Nakata’s “Ringu”, Verbinski’s “The Ring”, Carpenter’s TV movie “Cigarette Burns”, all about movies that kill people. But Antrum is that Movie. Do you think that a film can kill you? I believe that something could mess you up, forever”
– Nathan Fleet: Director (Hamilton International Film Festival)
“And is that possible for an art form to change the physical being of a human? This is since day one, since Greek times when we had theatres and hospitals next to each other, and people go to hospitals after watching shows to actually heal. So is that possible for art to have the opposite effect? Absolutely Yes”.
– Asen Gadjalov: Film Philosopher.
“No, I am not one of those people that are “I’m afraid because it’s spooky”, And maybe some people died’ between this time and that time. But it hasn’t anything to do with the film.
– Robert Kayle: Former Memphis Festival Programmer.
“Well binaural beats, a lot of people over the years have studied sub-sonic frequencies. What you hear in this film is maybe 500 cycles, the frequency on the left side and the frequency on the right side is maybe 504 cycles, Your brain picks up on 4 cycles. And a 4 cycles could induce some kind of a state”.
“They can make you enter into a state of euphoria like a high. Others can cause you to feel very anxious. And supposedly certain frequencies, if they are loud enough, can even cause you to have a nervous breakdown”.
Brock Fricker: Post Sound Technician.
“Those are sigils. So sigils are symbols that are said to hold emotional power over people. You don’t have to be consciously aware of these associations to be influenced by them. These associations are deeply embedded in the collective unconscious of human culture. For example, something as simple and common as a triangle carries with it peculiar powers with special associations.
For example, in the western world, the triangle is associated with the trinity – the father, son, and the holy ghost. In the eastern Cultures, the triangle means manifestation and illumination. And for the occult society, the triangle is generalized as a summoning symbol. To summon the devil or whomever.
Tabitha Zhu: Psychologists.
“You know I’m very familiar with the particular symbol that is used in Antrum. Basically, it’s an evocation to call upon one of the 72 demons. In the case of Antrum, the particular sigil symbol that’s in the film belongs to the powerful demon Astaroth. It’s from a grimoire a spellbook. It acts as an open invitation to whoever is exposed to the notorious sigil. Basically, it’s saying to you ‘do you want to play?”
Dr. Ivan Grason: Professor of Theology / Demonologist.
Second part – The second part of the movie starts with the story of Nathan and Oralee.
Antrum begins with the affairs of the siblings Oralee and Nathan, whose favorite dog, Maxine, was lately euthanized because the dog bites him. After they leave the hospital, Nathan asks his mom if his dog went to Heaven, the mother ridicules him by asserting that because she was a bad dog, Maxine has declined to Hell.
Nathan gets traumatized.
Traumatized, Nathan begins enduring disturbing nightmares and hallucinations of demons. To ease his brain, Oralee (The sister) pretends to have received a grimoire from an imaginary classmate named Ike whom she claims is an expert in the occult. Using the book—in fact, it was just an ordinary sketchbook Oralee has stuffed herself with arcane illustrations and “incantations”—she takes Nathan to a nearby woods restrictedly famous as a place for suicides, assuring him that it is the area where Satan fell to Earth when he was banished out of Heaven and that if they can locate the place where he berthed, the partners can dig a hole to Hell and retrieve Maxine’s soul.
They take a journey to the forest in search of hell.
Oralee leads Nathan through a series of ceremonies and “rites,” dedicating all along to provide for Nathan to find Maxine’s collar in the woods as a “sign” they have preserved her soul. As the day proceeds, Oralee is distressed to find that her “spells” are having a plausible effect on the real world, conjuring actual infernal figures. Additionally, the pair casually interrupt a man attempting suicide.
The First Day in Forest.
Their first night in the forests, Nathan slips out of the shelter and witnesses a boat being rowed in a nearby brook by a figure matching Charon, who ferries an unclothed woman. He furthermore hears a rattling chain that he connects to Cerberus.
Second Day.
The next day, Nathan and Oralee topple upon a pair of cannibals in the forests, who catch and cook people alive inside an iron Container that had the shape of Baphomet, including the fellow whose suicide effort they earlier prevented. When the cannibals become informed of their presence, Oralee tries to take herself and Nathan to shelter by abandoning their tent and rowing downriver in the boat Nathan saw the night before.
After running away from the cannibals.
Oralee and Nathan end up slipping into the water. After rescuing Nathan they both make it to shore, only to understand they have moved in a circle and are back at their tent. As they hide for the night, Oralee admits the trick to Nathan, but he professes to have met Ike. Nathan further tells Oralee that Ike told him not to believe her.
Nathan and Oralee on the boat
Day three.
The next daybreak, the cannibals catch them and try to cook Nathan, but Oralee flees her cage and rescues him. As Nathan bolts, Oralee grabs a gun and executes the cannibals to death. In the groves, Nathan trips across a dog with its forefoot caught in a bear trap. Nathan releases the animal, taking it as a sign he has delivered Maxine from Hell.
Meanwhile, Oralee runs through the woods, stalked by demons, and encountering violent delusions. She hides in the pair’s shelter, aiming her gun at the opening. As Nathan approaches carrying the iron shackles, panicked Oralee thinking it to be demons fires her gun without even checking who it was and the film ends.
Is the movie really cursed?
After watching the Movie that kills people, there was obvious concern regarding the type of material depicted in Antrum. The film is “definitely” not for minors and, people who have faint hearts should avoid this film. The play contains sensitive materials that might affect your psychology indirectly. People should not watch this film if they use hallucinogens because of the nature of music and sound effects used to enhance the impact.
No doubt the story is a tragedy itself where the elder sister kills her “Own” brother after a series of demonic manifestations, but that’s not the only thing to ponder. The story in the film is a psychological thriller with the root of Demonic history. The Movie is a GREAT effort to demonstrate how evil and its synonyms can influence your mind in a way that is hard to diagnose by primary medical examination.
Why people should think twice before watching it?
If you are a die-hard religious person and watch it from a theological point of view, then “definitely”, you will need some liters of Holy water to digest it. The whole movie exposes you to Demonic Symbols and sigils which people usually stay away from. There are rituals and scary isolated scenes which might haunt you for a long time. There are also philosophical aspects connected to some scenes, that might look normal but carry “significant weight” if you disambiguate it. The main factor that drives the movie and its story is ‘Fear’
And If you watch it from a psychological and scientific point of view, congratulations!. You would love to discuss it the whole year. The movie is a great case study for psychology students and people who love to examine abstract realities connect to an event that might be true, and if not, nobody cares.
Conclusion.
The Antrum is not a threat at all, and anyone can watch it, but the main subject is “It was created to cause trouble deliberately” by the Film Makers, and they deserve a thumbs up for stitching up a product like Antrum.
The first part of the film is a pure Marketing gimmick, and also happens to be a major part of the movie Antrum. All the facts showcased in the first part of the movie are made up and staged to establish the story and prepare your mind for Antrum. An establishment that made them easy to manipulate the minds of audience.
One higher note “The movie Does Not Kill People”.
